At 600 square feet, Little Algonquin is a lovely tiny home situated on a 500-acre farm traversed by the beautiful Amable du Fond River and surrounded by pristine forests . It has everything you need to feel comfortable and at home. Explore the hiking/snow shoeing trails both on and around the farm . Visit our amazing buffalo and say hello to Noah, our super-friendly German Shepherd (he’s a part of the family).
In addition to the farm setting itself, this experience also offers Northern Ontario wilderness experiences galore. You can drive to nearby Samuel de Champlain Park, the Eau Claire Gorge, Algonquin Park north, the picturesque town of Mattawa and more. We have made it a point to provide a very private spot on the river to hideout with a screened cabana, fire pit, picnic table and a lovely rustic swimming hole. Also, there are 500 acres with plenty of room to stretch out and explore – plus huge swathes of adjacent wilderness.
The cabin features a stove and fridge, all the cutlery and crockery needed to cook even special meals, lots of bedding, a shower and compost toilet.
You can rent canoes, kayaks and water boards from nearby Algonquin North Outfitters.
Please note: Little Algonquin is best suited for two – four people. Prices listed on Airbnb are for one person. There is an extra charge for each additional guest. Children under two years are free. This fee structure is the only way our small family business remains viable.
Please note that The Buffalo Farm also rents a unique, two-story yurt and a cozy tipi.
******In colder weather, this accommodation is heated by operating a wood burning stove which keeps the cabin toasty warm. Plan to bring lots of kindling and whatever supplies you need to keep that baby burning hot. Unfortunately we cannot issue refunds due to very cold weather.
Our guests extol The Buffalo Farm as a very special place. You are welcome to explore the entire farm property – fields and forests – as well as surrounding Crown forests and nearby parks (Algonquin and Samuel de Champlain Provincial Parks) and the incredible Eau Clair Gorge, truly one of Ontario’s best kept secrets.
An all-weather road permits you to drive down and around our pastures and along the riverside. Instagram @thebuffalofarm pictures the extraordinary beauty of this special place.
Other things to note
Through out the winter we solely rely on a wood stove for heat. Guests are expected to know how to operate a wood stove. Please watch how-to videos on YouTube. Please bring your own kindling and newspaper to ensure that you have everything you need to start a fire and maintain one.
