In the historic and vast wilderness of the Algonquin region, a unique, 32-foot, hand-crafted yurt overlooks the pristine Amable du Fond River, and a lush field where you’ll find three buffalo grazing. This is just a glimpse of what you can expect when you stay at the Buffalo Suite.

As Canada’s only two-storey yurt, The Buffalo Suite yurt is an authentic and unique structure. It boasts a 10-foot-long window overlooking our pasture, where you can catch a glimpse of our three young buffalo. Nestled beside the Amable du Fond river and surrounded by forest, a visit to the Buffalo Suite is a true Canadian wilderness getaway.

Our yurt is suitable for up to 12 guests, so whether you are looking for solitary respite or a family vacation away from the hustle and bustle, the Buffalo Suite can accommodate your needs.

Step out the front door of the YURT and you are just a few feet away from the Amable du Fond River, generally a lazy-flowing river with private spots for Swimming holes, summertime picnicking, rustic outdoor cookouts, Fishing or setting out in canoes (available to rent). Hiking Trails in the wider area (Eau Claire Gorge, Algonquin Park ( so close to us), Samuel de Champlain Park) offer many options for really beautiful hikes long and short. Visit Algonquin Park/Kioshkowi Lake where you can Enjoy a day paddle on the lake or a swim at the beach! Only a few minute drive from us -this is an incredible starting point for exploring the interior of Algonquin Park deeply.

In all seasons expect to see wild birds and small mammals, stunning sunsets shimmering on the river, and a canopy of brilliant stars at night.

Winter offers an amazing silence under its pearl-white blanket. Snuggle in with a cup of hot cocoa and stay warm with the wood-burning stove, insulated wood floor and inside insulated shell. You will be warm at night with the upkeep of the wood stove, under quality sheets and cozy duvets. Take excursions to the local parks with snowshoes, to the picturesque nearby town of Mattawa with its Mount Antoine (Ontario’s second-highest ski hill) or to some of the best ice fishing anywhere.
